JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Investigators say a Jonesboro man used pornographic Scooby Doo cartoons to sexually groom a young child.
Craighead County District Court Judge David Boling found probable cause Monday to charge Tony Joe Stevens, 32, with sexual indecency with a child and sexually grooming a child.
Court documents revealed Stevens showed pornographic videos on his cell phone to a young girl while he masturbated.
The alleged incident occurred in 2016 at a Jonesboro motel, the affidavit stated.
The victim told Jonesboro police and investigators with the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division that the videos were of characters from Scooby Doo and Mulan having sex. She also described a cartoon of an alien and a girl having sex.
She said while watching the videos Stevens was rubbing his "bad spot." She later identified it as his penis.
During their investigation, detectives learned that Stevens and his girlfriend, Heather Allen, had been recently arrested.
At the time of her arrest, Allen had two phones in her possession which she told detectives belonged to Stevens.
She told investigators that they had watched pornography together, but she did not know anything about "cartoon porn," the affidavit stated.
When officers with the Jonesboro Police Department's Internet Crimes Against Children investigated the phones, they found pornographic pictures of the Scooby Doo cartoon characters Velma and Shaggy.
The web browser history indicated the pornographic sites had been visited on the dates the young victim had described.
Investigators said they also found "several different searches for cartoon pornographic videos."
If convicted, Stevens could face up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Judge Boling set his bond at $50,000.
