POCAHONTAS, AR (KAIT) - Black River Technical College has been put on probation after a regional accrediting agency said they did not meet four necessary criteria.
The Higher Learning Commission out of Chicago, Illinois notified the college of the probation on March 7.
Among the criteria, the school must meet are strategic planning, student assessment, institutional effectiveness, and shared governance.
According to Vice President of Institutional Advancement Karen Liebhaber, much of the criteria requires certain documentation or technical work.
She said in criteria such as student assessment more than just grades are needed.
"HLC does not consider grades as an evaluation of how a student does, which is kind of crazy to faculty and to students themselves," she said.
She said the college is working to meet these criteria and is already halfway there.
According to Liebhaber, the school will find out in early 2019 if their probation will be lifted.
