(KAIT) - A basketball player many cheered on in Northeast Arkansas is now headed to the NBA Draft.
Malik Monk who started playing basketball in Lepanto at East Poinsett County then progressed to become a Kentucky Wildcat, announced his intentions on Tuesday in a report by the Lexington Herald-Leader Newspaper.
"As a little kid, these are words that I could only dream of saying. For that I am very grateful and thank God. I would like to thank Coach Cal for helping me evolve my game and become a more complete basketball player," Monk said as part of published letter to Kentucky fans.
The Wildcats progressed to the Elite 8 in the 2017 NCAA Tournament before being ousted by the North Carolina Tar Heels who won the NCAA Championship Monday.
