Pills and pistols: man arrested in burglary case

BAXTER COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - It's been nearly five months since the crime, but a sheriff says a man accused of stealing guns and medications from a home is now in custody.

Steven Bruce Hutton, 56, of Halfway, Missouri was extradited to Arkansas Monday on warrants from Baxter County, according to Sheriff John Montgomery.

Hutton is accused of breaking into a home on Baxter County Road 577 in December 2016.

At the time of the incident, the victim reported five Glock pistols were taken along with "numerous medications."

Montgomery says serial numbers for the guns were entered into online databases, including the National Crime Information Center and LeadsOnline.

One system showed Hutton pawned two guns in Springfield, Missouri the same day the burglary happened. Other items were pawned days later in Daytona Beach, Florida.

According to Montgomery, the victim said he knew Hutton who had been to his home in the past.

Warrants were issued for Hutton and he was eventually arrested on March 29 in Bolivar, Missouri.

Hutton is currently in the Baxter County Detention Center on felony charges of residential burglary along with seven counts of theft of property.

Bond was set at $35,000 and Hutton will appear in circuit court on April 13 to answer.
