A Better Region 8: ArkansasGives.org online give-a-thon this Thursday

One of the things I like most about living in Region 8 is that we take care of our own. Two years ago, the Arkansas Community Foundation did a fundraiser that could truly be the model of how to support non-profit agencies in the future.

They organized their first 12-hour give-a-thon called "Arkansas Gives."  The annual campaign challenges all Arkansans to make a donation on a single day in recognition of the vital work our local charitable organizations do.

Whether it's feeding the hungry, caring for the elderly or mentoring our children, the work of Arkansas's nonprofits affects every citizen and helps improve every community.

This year promises to be bigger and better!

The event will take place this Thursday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Throughout the 12-hour period, the Arkansas Community Foundation will post how the participating nonprofits are doing on Facebook and Twitter.

The key here is that all donations will be made online by logging on to arkansasgives.org. This makes helping out easy, by meeting people where they are in today's digital society.

Again, we take care of our own here in Region 8. Embracing technology for the greater good and helping local non-profits this Thursday makes this A Better Region 8.
