LEACHVILLE, AR (KAIT) -

With about a week to go before the ballpark opens for the year, Leachville residents have been working to rebuild the park after an incident last year.

Tommie Jo Kendrick said the ballpark's concession stand was damaged last year through vandalism.

The ballpark had several broken windows and the urinals in the two bathrooms were kicked out.

The Leachville Industrial Development Committee gave the ballpark $3,000 to help pay for renovations. Kendrick said the closing of the ballpark has hurt kids in the Mississippi County town.

"They told us our kids will not have a ballpark to play in this season that's why our committee stepped up," Kendrick said. "We want our kids to have every opportunity and every resource that other children do in other towns."

Anyone interested in being a sponsor or donating to the park can call Kendrick at (870) 219-4298.
