FAYETTEVILLE, AR (KAIT) -

A northwest Arkansas man was sentenced Tuesday to nearly two decades in prison on a child pornography charge.

Charles Ray Smith of Winslow, who was arrested in Sept. 2016 on sex abuse charges, was sentenced to 17 years in prison and was also given lifetime supervised release on one count of receipt of child porn.

According to United States Attorney for the Western District of Arkansas Kenneth Elser, police arrested Smith at his home in Winslow. Smith reportedly told authorities that he had been downloading child porn on his cell phone and would transfer it to his laptop computer.

Authorities later searched his bedroom and found two laptop computers, as well as images of child porn, Elser said in a statement. Smith was indicted in Oct. 2016 and pleaded guilty in Dec. 2016.

In addition to the U.S. Attorney's office, the federal Department of Homeland Security Investigations unit and the Siloam Springs Police Department investigated the case.
