Police: Copper thief may have used key to get into building

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Instead of forcing open a door, it's believed a copper thief used a key.

A man doing maintenance reported Wednesday that someone entered the General Electric plant, 101 S. Gee, and stole an unknown amount of copper.

According to the incident report, the man found several bundles of pre-measured and pre-cut copper wire throughout the building.

He also found tools and other items that were not there the last time police were called. In March, someone forced their way into the building, causing $6,000 worth of damage to electrical boxes, and stole an unknown amount of copper.

The complainant told Officer Joseph Branstetter he believed the suspect has a key to the building "because there was no sign of forced entry this time."

Branstetter collected the items and logged them into evidence.
