Woman wins $100,000 with forgotten lottery ticket

DEXTER, MO (KAIT) - A Southeast Missouri teen will get a new set of wheels after her mom found a forgotten lottery ticket in her purse.

After filling up her car's gas tank at BJ's Kwik Shop in her hometown of Dexter, Kristen Vineyard decided to use her spare cash to buy a lottery ticket.

"I never really play the lottery," the 36-year-old woman said. "But something told me I needed to buy a ticket."

After purchasing the $5 Missouri Lottery "Black Ice" scratchers ticket, Vineyard stuck it in her purse…and forgot about it.

"I kind of forgot that I bought the ticket and didn't scratch it off until later," she said.

When she did finally get around to scratching her ticket, she uncovered the top prize of $100,000, according to a news release from the Missouri Lottery.

"This came at a really good time," Vineyard said. "I have a teenage daughter that needs braces. She also just turned 16 years old and needs a car, too."

In addition to buying new wheels for her daughter, she would like to start a dog breeding business and go on a vacation.
