WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) - The city of Walnut Ridge will soon have 118 trees removed from a city park.
According to Park Commission Chairwoman Mechelle Davis, the park recently received a tree grant for the removal.
The trees were identified over a year ago by the forestry commission.
"We have some unhealthy, some dying, some dead trees," said Davis.
She said once the trees are fallen, the city will work to remove them from the park.
"The city will use the like kind work for the grant to cut them up and get them off the property. It will take about a year in total," she said.
Davis said the dead trees make the park unhealthy and can cause mosquito issues.
"The unhealthy trees being removed will then also permit the aerial application of for the mosquito spraying to filter down better into the park," she said.
