INDEPENDENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - The Batesville Motor Speedway is revving up for a big weekend.
The Bad Boy 98 is on Friday and Saturday nights and drivers and their families will be flocking to Independence County.
The race is one of two large races that the Batesville Motor Speedway hosts each year.
The owner of the speedway, Connie Star, said people come from all over the nation for the excitement.
A $20,000 top prize is sure to draw a crowd, and that crowd will spend their money in towns like Batesville.
"Our hotels this weekend, for example, are at 100% occupancy," Batesville tourism director Kyle Christopher said. "What that does to our local economy is restaurants are full, as I said our hotel, they're stopping and shopping, they're getting gas. The Batesville Motor Speedway is probably Batesville's largest tourism machine."
Christopher said local businesses in Batesville look forward to race season each year.
Weekly shows at the speedway also draw an out-of-town crowd to Independence County.
The other big events will be the Topless 100, which takes place in August.
