IZARD COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

On Thursday, the Izard County Quorum Court appointed Jack Yancey to fill out the unexpired term of Lawrence. Yancey served as sheriff from 1979 to 1990, according to a post on the Sheriff's Department's Facebook page.

Yancey was appointed to replace Izard Co. Sheriff Tate Lawrence, who died earlier this month.

According to a Facebook post from the group Association of Arkansas Counties, Lawrence's visitation took place at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, April 11, at Melbourne First Baptist Church.

Funeral services followed at 2 p.m. with burial to follow at the Melbourne Cemetery.

Sheriff Lawrence died at his home in Melbourne after a three-month battle with cancer.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Sherry, and their two grown children.
