RECTOR, AR (KAIT) - The Rector library will soon get a facelift, literally.

The city has been planning to work on the library for the past couple of years, and Mayor Teresa Roofe said that work will begin soon.

New asphalt will be laid on the parking lot and crews will raise the library's museum door to avoid flooding issues.

Mayor Roofe said the library will also have a new statue added to the property.

"Infrastructure is so important to a town, and you've just got to keep on top of things, and this is one of the things that has just gone by the wayside because we've been so busy on our streets and stuff like that," Mayor Roofe said. "We've just got to keep things up."

This will be the first time that parking lot has seen new asphalt in about 30 years.

Renovations on the property will cost the city around $40,000.

Mayor Roofe said the Rector Community Museum is also hoping to move off of the library property soon.

The vacant space would then give the library room to expand.
