JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A man caught on camera breaking into a Jonesboro business apparently helped himself to a soda then threw the empty can into the wastebasket. Now, police hope it will identify him.

Surveillance video showed the man enter Carting Complex, 3141 W. Parker Rd., around 9:50 p.m. Saturday.

Once inside, the suspect tried to break into the cash register.

After several minutes, the man was able to tear off the drawer facing and get into the till and steal $1,364.90, according to the police report.

The suspect—described as a tall, slender white male with a buzzed haircut—picked up a Diet Dr. Pepper from a group of cans behind the counter and drank it while he burgled the business, Officer Gary Jackson said.

After staying inside the business for a “very long time,” the man returned to the register area and got another soda before leaving the store.

While investigating the crime scene, Jackson said he found a can matching the soda’s description in a trash can.

“I asked [the owner] and three of his employees who were on the scene if they had [drunk] any of the Dr. Peppers,” Jackson reported. “They all stated that they had not and that the Dr. Peppers were old and had been sitting there a long time.”

Jackson collected the can and labeled it for processing.
