IZARD COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

Investigators say someone intentionally set a fire that destroyed a rural church.

Around 5:30 p.m. Friday, the Izard County Sheriff’s Department received a call saying the Forrest Chapel Church on State Highway 56 in Violet Hill was on fire.

Fire departments from Franklin, Oxford and Horseshoe Bend responded to the scene, but were unable to save the structure.

Once crews knocked down the flames, fire investigators determined it was arson.

Anyone with information on this crime should call the sheriff’s department at 870-368-4203.
