JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A new grant will help the Northeast Arkansas Humane Society replace nearly two dozen kennels that supporters say are much needed.
At least 20 of the kennels inside the humane society's facility in Jonesboro are being renovated.
Executive Director Margaret Shepherd said Tuesday that the grant will help get rid of the older kennels that had rusted chain link fences.
The new kennels will be made of a tougher commercial-grade chain link fence.
Shepherd said the new equipment has been needed for several years.
"I am thrilled with grant opportunities that are out there for the shelters that allowed us to make this a better place to house these pets," Shepherd said.
Shepherd added the Humane Society plans to use some of the money from the grant for even larger projects in the future.
