JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A grant from a convenience store chain will go to help feed children in northeast Arkansas.
The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas announced Wednesday that it will use a $3,000 grant from Kum & Go to help children at risk of hunger as part of its Backpack Program.
The program seeks to feed children with nutritious and easily prepared foods they can take home on weekends and during school holidays.
Christie Jordan, CEO of the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas said in the news release the food bank is grateful for the support from Kum & Go to help provide food and support.
She added, "Research shows that children who experience hunger face significant stress and challenges that can have a lasting effect on their physical, cognitive, and behavioral development."
The organization provides emergency food assistance to 5,000 individuals each week in 12 counties.
