IZARD COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - A judge sentenced an Arkansas man to five years probation and ordered him to pay restitution for Medicaid fraud.
Clifton Davis, 51, of Melbourne pleaded guilty to theft of property by deception Wednesday in Pulaski County Circuit Court. In addition to probation, the judge ordered Davis to pay $5,232 in restitution to the Arkansas Medicaid Program and $500 in fines and court costs.
Izard County sheriff's deputies arrested Davis in October 2016 after investigators learned he had married his Medicaid caregiver and continued to receive care which made the caregiver ineligible for Medicaid payments, according to Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge.
The caregiver is scheduled for a hearing on June 5.
"Medicaid is a critical safety net for some of the most vulnerable Arkansans," Rutledge said. "Both Davis and his caregiver took advantage of the program."
