PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - The Paragould School District is looking at buying a bowling alley that was damaged by a fire in July 2016.
The school board met Thursday to discuss the possibility to buying Paragould Bowling Center.
The bowling alley is near Paragould High School.
Paragould Superintendent Debbie Smith said she has been inside the bowling alley, which has smoke and fire damage.
The district is looking to see how much it would cost to buy and repair the building and to see if they would be feasible for the district.
"This property does have the potential to really benefit the district," Smith said. "But it's also money, and we want to make sure that we use good decisions to make good decisions especially when using taxpayer dollars."
Smith said the bowling alley could be used as the district's physical plant, which is where the maintenance and operation of the district are housed.
The current physical plant, which is on the high school's campus, could then be renovated and be used for academic space.
The purchase of the bowling alley would also allow the district the chance to move buses that are on the high school campus to the bowling alley, freeing up space on campus for expansion.
