The Northcentral Arkansas Development Council is adding to its Early Head Start program.

Head Start Director Linda Cooper said they are currently serving over 300 low income three to five-year-olds in Fulton, Independence, Izard, Sharp, and Stone counties.

Cooper said the NADC will now serve newborns six weeks to three years old in their Early Head Start Program.

It will serve 32 children in both Independence and Sharp counties along with 16 children in Izard County.

Future plans include expanding the new service to Fulton and Stone counties.

“The parent that really needs to work and leave their child with a caregiver, just don’t have many options,” Cooper said. “And so it’s going to impact, the children will be really cared for, but the parent will be able to go back to school or get a job, that they wouldn’t be able to do otherwise."

Cooper said they are currently looking for facilities to hold the new program.

They are taking applications now. If you are interested in the program, call Cooper at (870) 793-3234.
