JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

The Junior Auxillary Crown Club of Jonesboro hosted its second annual Crowns and Canines 5K Saturday.

The organization held the event on the Valley View High School Campus.

Runners and their furry friends came out to participate in the race, which serves as the club's spring fundraiser.

"Half of the proceeds go to the Junior Auxiliary Crown Club and the other half of the proceeds goes to the NEA humane society,” Erica Huffstetler, the club’s chairperson said. “There's always events going on in the community but we wanted to do something to give back to the dogs and so, we decided, the girls decided to put on this event."

Around 60 participants showed up under clear skies for the 5K.

The top ten finishers received an award along with the participant with the best costume.

The club hopes to donate around $500 from the race to the NEA Humane Society.
