PIGGOTT, AR - Federal aviation authorities are expected in Clay County this morning to investigate the death of a cropduster pilot after a plane crashed early last night outside of Piggott.
The Clay County Sheriff's Office said the pilot had taken off from the Kennett, Missouri, airport to spray a Missouri field. The pilot crossed the St. Francis River into Arkansas and was circling back when the accident happened.
Witnesses said the plane climbed sharply and then crashed into the ground nose-first.
Clay County Sheriff Ronnie Cole identified the pilot as 25-year-old Josh Savat of Poplar Bluff.
