New law to allow debit card payment for lottery tickets

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - Act 876 will allow Arkansas Scholarship Lottery retailers to accept debit cards as payment for lottery tickets.

The new law will take effect in July of this year and some customers are happy about the change.

A Paragould man said he is looking forward to using his debit card for ticket purchases this summer.

"I think it would be great because, I mean people who use banks all the time they have to go the ATM to buy lottery tickets," said Bobby Berry. "They have to draw cash and all that, and I buy lottery tickets all the time."

The change will allow retailers to choose whether they will accept debit cards as forms of payment.

However, credit cards will not be accepted as payment at any Arkansas Scholarship Lottery retailers.
