JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Jonesboro High School administrators suspended a boy after police say he told another student he was “going to shoot up” the school.

On Sunday, an 18-year-old student reported he received a text message Friday from the 15-year-old suspect saying he was being bullied in band class.

The student told police the suspect said he was “going to bring a gun to school and shoot the people that were picking on him.”

Officer Colton Brown notified Jim Flanigan, school resource officer for JHS, about the incident.

Flanigan and school administrators met with the suspect and his parents Monday morning at the Northeast Arkansas Career and Technical Center.

The suspect said the complainant and other students in his class “laugh at him, make fun of him, and bully him,” the initial incident report stated.

His parents acknowledged their son had told them about the bullying but had asked them not to say anything “for fear of retaliation,” Flanigan reported.

The suspect also said that he sometimes tells his siblings “he will kill them” out of anger.

When asked if there were any weapons in the home, the boy’s father said there were but that they were all locked up.

JHS Executive Administrator Dr. Shannon Lewis then told the parents that due to the nature of the threat the suspect would be suspended from school for five days. Lewis also said the suspect would need to be screened before being allowed to return to school, the report said.
