JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A Jonesboro woman returned from a week-long vacation in Mexico to find someone had stolen nearly $30,000 worth of her mother’s heirloom jewelry.

The victim, who lives in the 1700-block of Biscayne Lane, said the theft occurred while she was on vacation between April 1 and 8.

She told police she checked on the jewelry about two weeks before her trip and it was all there.

Also, as far as she could tell, the home had not been broken into. All of the doors and windows were locked, the incident report said.

The woman said the jewelry—valued at $29,800—was stored in a hidden safe. However, she did say the locking mechanism was broken.

She told police the jewelry, including a 2.15 karat platinum engagement ring, had belonged to her deceased mother.

While she was away on vacation, the victim said her son had at least four people over for a party at the home. She did not know who the people were, the report stated.

According to the report, the woman is going to pawn shops in the area searching for the jewelry.

Anyone with information on this theft should call Crimestoppers at 935-STOP.
