ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Lyon College softball team kept their playoff hopes alive Monday evening with a sweep over Missouri Baptist, by scores of 10-1 and 3-2. The 3-2 win lasted nine innings after the Spartans tied the game in the seventh to send it to extras. Nicole Sanders gave the Scots the lead in the second contest, as she hit an RBI single to score Rachel Norman.
Kaitlyn Guevara led the offense in game one with three hits, while Cheyenne Black had a team leading three hits in the second game.
Lyon is now 23-24 overall and 11-13 in the AMC on the season. Missouri Baptists is 18-20 overall and 10-12 in the conference. Lyon jumps into eighth place in the conference, while the Spartans are in ninth. The top eight seeds in the conference clinch a playoff spot once the regular season ends.

Game 1 – Lyon got out to an early 1-0 lead after Lewis singled in Norman. Lyon would tack on another run in the fourth as Haley Huffstuttler added an RBI groundout. The Scots led 2-0 after four innings.
Lyon’s offense continued to pound Missouri Baptist as they struck for five runs in the fifth, which was started by three straight hits to lead off the inning. The Scots followed that up with three runs in the sixth. The Spartans lone run of the game came in the fifth, as Lyon took the first game 10-1.
Game 2 – Lyon took a 1-0 lead in the third inning, before adding one more run in the sixth. Lewis hit a sacrifice fly ball in the sixth inning to give Lyon the 2-0 advantage. Missouri Baptist then kept things interesting as they posted two runs in the bottom half.
Both teams would go to extra innings but the Scots broke the tie in the ninth when Norman hit a one out double. Sanders then knocked her in with a single to center field to give Lyon the 3-2 lead. The Scots were able to shut the door in the ninth, despite a double by the Spartans to sweep the day.

Lyon will travel to Crowley’s Ridge College (Ark.) on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
