JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A Jonesboro man was airlifted Tuesday night to a Memphis hospital with critical injuries following a two-vehicle crash on Johnson Avenue.

It happened in front of the Sonic in the Hilltop area.

Witnesses told police a Chevy Malibu driven by Stacye Johnson of Jonesboro was eastbound when it slowed to make a right turn into 4405 East Johnson.

A motorcycle, also traveling eastbound on Johnson behind the car, attempted to pass on the shoulder to avoid a rear-end collision with the car, according to a statement released Wednesday from the Jonesboro Police Department.

The motorcyclist, Anthony Allen of Jonesboro, hit the front passenger door of the Malibu and was seriously injured.

Passersby rendered initial first aid until JPD officers arrived and applied tourniquets to Allen, said Paul Holmes, public information specialist for the JPD.

EMS soon arrived and provided treatment until a medical transport helicopter could take him to Regional One Health in Memphis.
