WALNUT RIDGE, AR - Emergency crews are on the scene near Walnut Ridge this evening, where a train derailed this afternoon.

According to a spokesman with the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department, the train derailed shortly before 4:45 p.m. near the intersection of U.S. 63 and Arkansas 91, approximately two miles south of Walnut Ridge.

Hazardous chemicals are said to be involved, and a haz-mat team has been called to the scene.  It is not known if there are any injuries, but traffic on both highways is being re-routed.  A KAIT employee at the scene said there is a strong chemical smell in the air.

K8 News has a crew at the scene and will have more details as they become available.
