Dumpster used in theft, police say

A dumpster is typically the place where you throw garbage, but Jonesboro police believe it was also the place where at least $1,000 worth of stolen items were placed over a one-month period.

According to a police report, Officer Keith Baggett went Wednesday to the Dollar General store at 4117 E. Highland Drive about the theft. A local vendor told the store's district manager that they saw a suspect taking merchandise from the store and threw it into the dumpster.

"When the vendor questioned the suspect about the activity, the suspect told the vendor to mind his own business," Baggett said in the report.

Store officials believe the suspect began taking the items from a back stockroom and put them into the dumpster, from March 3 to March 31. The investigation into the theft was ongoing, and police were still attempting Wednesday to find out what was taken.

Anyone with information on the case can call Crimestoppers at (870) 935-STOP (7867).
