JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Mountain bikers and cyclists in Jonesboro have a new place to catch their breaths and fill their water bottles.
The trailhead pavilion at Craighead Forest Park is now open.
The pavilion, according to a statement from the city, is outfitted to supply the cycling community. It includes picnic tables, bike washing and repair stations, bike racks, a water bottle-filling station, trail maps, a fire pit, LED lights, a ceiling fan, and more.
"This is a state of the art trailhead for mountain bikers and road cyclists," said Wixson Huffstetler, director of city parks. "It has all the repair tools, including an air pump, that a cyclist would need."
The trailhead, funded with city dollars and a Parks and Tourism grant, is part of the larger mission to make the park the "premier recreation spot in Northeast Arkansas," according to Mayor Harold Perrin.
"We want this park to have something for everyone," Perrin said. "This particular trailhead will serve the strong and growing cycling community in Jonesboro and the region."
