2.5 magnitude earthquake hits near SC/GA border

COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA (WFXG) -

Shortly before 2:00 a.m. Friday morning, many CSRA residents felt a rumbling beneath their feet. Some on social media described it as a loud boom.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake was a 2.5 magnitude at a depth of 5.1 miles. The epicenter of the earthquake was at 33.553°N 82.105°W, putting it right at Jones Creek Golf Club along Evans to Locks road.

No damage from the earthquake has been reported.

    An off-duty deputy with the Aiken County Sheriff's Office has been killed in an apparent crash in Warrenville. The Sheriff's Office says twenty-two-year-old Deputy Kesli Payton Padgett was reported missing at about 2 p.m. on Wednesday and a search was conducted in the Warrenville area.
