Train Derail Update

A rail warped by heat has been blamed for a derailment that piled up 20 freight cars on and alongside railroad tracks southeast of Walnut Ridge.

No injuries were reported in the derailment about 4:45 p.m. Friday near the intersection of U.S. 63 and Arkansas 91.

However, an automobile approaching the Burlington-Northern tracks sustained damage from flying debris.

Burlington-Northern officials said heat apparently warped a rail out of alignment with the rest of the tracks.

Authorities said no hazardous chemicals or noxious substances were released.
