JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Jonesboro police arrested a homeless man on suspicion of selling drugs at the public library.
Kedrien L Brown, 31, is charged with possession of meth or cocaine with the purpose to deliver less than 2 grams and possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance with the purpose to deliver.
On April 21, Officer Christopher Jefferson reported seeing Brown enter a "known drug house" in the 900-block of Warner Avenue.
According to the initial incident report, Brown "stayed for only one to two minutes before exiting the residence and getting inside the backseat of a silver Pontiac Grand Prix."
Jefferson followed the vehicle and saw it stop for an extended length of time at the intersection of Olive Street and Warner Avenue.
The vehicle continued on Warner but "quickly turned south on Parr Street" when Jefferson got behind it.
At the intersection of Oak Street, Brown got out of the car and "walked on the property of the Jonesboro Library," Jefferson reported.
The officer watched to see if Brown would walk inside, but he did not.
"When I turned around back toward the library, Brown quickly started walking inside the library," Jefferson said.
Saying there have been "several complaints about suspicious individuals at the library selling narcotics," Jefferson went inside and asked Brown to speak with him.
After walking with him to the front door, Jefferson asked Brown "what he was up to."
Brown, who was "extremely nervous with heavy breathing," said he was just getting dropped off at the library.
While running Brown's identification through dispatch, Jefferson said he got Brown's consent to search him.
During the search, Jefferson said he found a plastic baggie containing marijuana inside Brown's pants.
"I went to retrieve the baggie and it was tied to the string of his basketball shorts," Jefferson said. "Inside the plastic bag were eight small plastic baggies containing suspected marijuana. Also inside the bag were two small plastic baggies containing suspected methamphetamines. These all appeared to be packaged for sale."
Jefferson arrested Brown, who was identified as homeless in the report and took him to the Craighead County Detention Center to await a probable cause hearing.
