JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

The members of a local church are branching out to help people in need or those who have given back to their country.

Ashley and Gary Cook with the Kingdom Discipleship Ministries are the founders of the Lawns for Christ project. The plan calls for the group to mow yards for the elderly and disabled veterans free of charge for the summer months.

They have mowed three yards so far and have worked to get their message out to draw the interest of people.

"A lot of times, they took care of us, so we should give back and take care of them. This isn't just something we want for jonesboro.. we want to make it big we want to branch out to other communities. and get other churches involved, other small businesses involved," Ashley Cook said.

The project is for people who are 60 or older or are a disabled veteran, Cook said.

Anyone wanting their yard mowed or are willing to volunteer can call the ministry at 870-206-7142.
