HARDY, AR (KAIT) - The Hardy Police and Fire Departments are evacuating some residents due to flooding.
According to Police Chief Tamara Taylor, the Spring River has come out of its banks. She said the water was quickly rising, reporting it rose nearly 1 foot in about an hour's time.
Taylor told Region 8 News the evacuations were for those who live near the river.
According to the National Weather Service, the Spring River will crest at 16 feet, which is consider major flood stage.
Chief Taylor said the river is flooding due to major rains in Missouri flowing downstream to Hardy.
She said the city had been preparing since Thursday for possible evacuations, which led to a quick response time once the river began to rise.
