Little Rock, AR - The heat index is forecast to reach as high as 110 degrees Thursday in parts of Arkansas.    The Arkansas Health Department urges residents to take precautions.   High temperatures and humidity can combine to cause serious illness and even death.

For those who can't avoid being outside in the heat, officials say it is best to drink plenty of nonalcoholic beverages and wear light-colored and light-weight clothing.

The dry weather can also strain public water supplies.   The Health Department is asking residential water users to cut down on using water.
