Statue, damaged by storm, taken down

JACKSON COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - Lady Liberty came down Tuesday morning from its perch on top of the Jackson County Courthouse.

The statue, a replica of the one in the New York Harbor, suffered significant damage during the recent storms.

The county clerk said pieces had broken off the statue and there were fears it would eventually fall off the building.

Crews used cranes to lift the statue and bring it down.

The statue had sat atop the courthouse since the 1940s.
