WAPPAPELLO, MO - A 32-year-old eastern Missouri man drowns after the boat he was in broke down in Wappapello Lake, near Poplar Bluff.

Charles Burnia of Desloge and Bradley Gibson were in the 16-foot bass boat that stalled Saturday evening. The Missouri Water Patrol says that as Gibson tried to re-start the boat, Burnia jumped into the water, which was about five feet deep.

Gibson heard Burnia call for help and saw him slip under water. Gibson jumped in but could not locate Burnia.

The body was recovered yesterday morning.
