Region 8 Youth Dead, Another Missing on White River

JULY 13, 2005 - Posted at 7:36 a.m. CDT

AUGUSTA, AR - Authorities say one boy drowned and another is missing after both went under in the White River at Augusta.

Officers identified the victims as 13-year-old Stephen Gibbs, Jr. of Augusta, and ten-year-old Keviante Beasley of Waldo.

Authorities say the boys were playing on piers in the river, and the two jumped into the river and tried to swim under one of the structures.  The boys did not resurface.

Searchers found the body of Stephen Gibbs yesterday afternoon.  The search, using cadaver dogs, is to resume today for Keviante Beasley, who was in Augusta visiting relatives.
