Body of Second Drowning Victim Recovered on White River

JULY 14, 2005 - Posted at 7:44 a.m. CDT

AUGUSTA, AR - Woodruff County authorities say the body of a second boy who drowned in the White River near Augusta has been recovered.  The sheriff's office said the body of 13-year-old Keviante Beasley of Waldo in Columbia County was recovered yesterday.

Beasley had remained missing after the body of his friend, 13-year-old Stephen Gibbs, Jr. of Augusta, was recovered from the river on Tuesday.  Beasley was visiting relatives in Augusta and had gone swimming with Gibbs that day.

Police said the two boys had jumped into the water and had tried to swim under one of the structures they were playing.  Neither one resurfaced.
