Hospital Opens New Women's Center

July 14, 2005--Posted at 7:00 p.m. CST

BATESVILLE,AR--A one of a kind medical facility is now open in Batesville.  A 54,000 sq. ft. addition to the White River Medical Center caters to the needs of women.

With a warm color scheme, chandeliers and wood floors in patient rooms, the facility feels more like a hotel than a hospital.

The center offers several unique features.  The maternity ward doesn’t offer the traditional nursery where visitors peek through windows.  Instead, newborns stay in the rooms with their mothers just about 24 hours a day.

The facility also has what’s called a “wellness canopy,” in every room.  It’s a lighted canvas mounted above the bed that features one of two outdoor scenes.   Hospital officials put wellness canopies in patient rooms because studies show that a pleasant atmosphere speeds the healing process.

There’s still some work to be finished before the entire facility is open, but patients are already getting the care they need.

The building will be dedicated on Tuesday, July 26, at 2 p.m. at the White River Medical Center.  University of Arkansas Athletic Director Frank Broyles will be the key speaker.  The dedication is open to the public.
