CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

Three Region 8 police chiefs have now adopted the same policies and procedures to ensure their officers can assist each other during big investigations.

Now, police departments in Monette, Caraway, and Lake City have matching handbooks.

A few years ago, the Association of Chiefs of Police paid a company to supply them with a book of policies and procedures, which they then gave to each municipality in Arkansas for free of charge.

Monette Police Chief Brian Carmichael said they took that list, eliminated the rules that didn’t apply to them, and took those that did.

“We all got together, me, Chief (Winred) Saffell (Lake City Police Chief), and Chief (William "Pete") Hicks (Caraway Police Chief), and spent months going through each individual policy and adopted books that were all the same that way when they come here they have our policy and when we go there we have theirs,” Carmichael said.

He said since they are all smaller police departments, it is important that they can effectively work together.

Chief Carmichael says the uniform policies will cut down on confusion so officers can focus all of their attention on the case.
