PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -

“When they were traveling from Las Vegas to Yuma, his wife was in a bad car accident," said Jose Santiago from Maricopa County Animal Care and Control.

The husband went on to tell the staff that his wife and her two kids are in the hospital in critical condition and unable to communicate and tell him where the dog and kitten are supposed to go to.

"So now we are looking for who these animals once belong to and who supposed to be going to," said Santiago.

The kitten is 6 weeks old with only one eye. The dog is a few years old and is a Chihuahua mix. Maricopa County Animal Care and Control has called several rescue groups in Yuma but none of them know anything about the animals. They now need Arizona families to help.

"If they recognize the animals or maybe they know this woman and the circumstances behind the transport or know where the animals are from in Las Vegas and can help us get them to the original owner," said Santiago.

If you know anything, you are asked to call the Maricopa County Animals Care and Control at (602) 506-738. If the owners of the dog and kitten are not located they will be up for adoption.
