MESA, AZ (3TV/CBS 5) -

A Mesa group is making a difference in a matter that is close to the heart for many women.

Bag and Boob Babes is a group of women led by Marilyn Reed who sew and knit a variety of care package items for mastectomy patients across the country. Among these items are drain bag aprons, a type of breast prosthetic called knitted knockers, eye masks, pillows and more.

These items are then donated to doctors, hospitals and the patients themselves.

"It puts a smile on everyone's face. It's wonderful," said one woman who is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

The group, which recently gained status as a 501(c)(3) non-profit, was founded in 2012 when a friend of Reed's had a mastectomy.

"Let's do this for these ladies that are starting this difficult journey in their life," Reed said.

Since their early days, the group has grown to include over 50 women in states across the country. Reed attributes their growth to the money that they have raised through fundraisers, donations and volunteers.

If you want to help out, the group is looking for volunteers from the community and fabric or yarn stores who are willing to partner with the group to help make a difference for both the local community and women across the country.

They are also hosting their next fundraiser on October 14 at Greenfield Village Resort. The event will feature barbecue dinner, dancing and live entertainment by the Debbie & Double Eagle Band.

For more information, call Marilyn Reed at 602-513-1728 or email bagandboobbabes@gmail.com.
