JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Jonesboro police are investigating a shooting that happened early Saturday morning.

According to Cpl. David McDaniel, the shooting happened around 5 a.m. on North Church Street near Jessup Drive.

According to new information released Thursday, the shooting may have actually happened in the Cedar Heights area.

A Jonesboro Police Department incident report states officers were called to the emergency room at St. Bernards Medical Center in reference to a patient with a gunshot wound.

Police said it was difficult to interview the victim due to her medical needs.

The victim told police she was driving and stopped at the intersection of North Church and Jessup when she heard a loud bang. She said that’s when she realized she was shot.

She told police she did not see the shooter and that she had a gunshot wound in her upper left leg and two wounds to her abdomen.

The victim was then taken into surgery.

Police also spoke to witnesses who were in the waiting room of the emergency room.

One witness initially told police he was not present when the victim was shot but then amended his statement to say he was a passenger in the car.

That witness told police he also did not see the shooter and that there was another witness in the vehicle.

He told police the second witness was supposed to be on his way back to the hospital so police could process the car where the shooting allegedly happened.

A police officer was called back to St. Bernards Sunday morning to retrieve the bullet that had been removed from the victim.

Police went to North Church Street to try and find a crime scene. There, they found drops of blood in the roadway at the stop sign at N. Church and Jessup.

No additional evidence was found at that scene. Police were later told the shooting didn't happen at the intersection of North Church and Jessup, but rather in the Cedar Heights area.

An incident report states the people in the car might have changed drivers at North Church and Jessup before going to the hospital.

Police are currently speaking to witnesses but have no suspect at this time.

If you have any information in this shooting, call Crimestoppers at 935-STOP (7867).
