JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Road work begins this week to improve an Arkansas highway in Jonesboro. The work will require alternating lane closures.

According to the Arkansas Department of Transportation, work to improve State Highway 18 (East Highland Dr.) starts on Thursday at 6:30 a.m., weather permitting.

Asphalt work will alternately close a single lane of traffic on Highway 18 between Watt St. and Commerce Dr.

Lane closures will occur weekdays and Saturdays from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. until the project is complete.

ARDOT estimates the work to be done in about three weeks.

Signage, flaggers, and traffic cones will be out to control traffic.

Drivers should use caution when approaching and traveling through all highway work zones.
