JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A man originally charged with raping a young girl over the course of two years has been sentenced on a lesser charge.

Donald D. Christiansen of Weiner entered a negotiated plea of guilty to one count of second-degree sexual assault.

On Monday, Circuit Judge Richard Lusby sentenced Christiansen to 54 months in the Arkansas Department of Correction and 60 months suspended imposition of sentence.

In addition, the judge ordered Christiansen to pay court costs and fees and register as a sex offender.

Jonesboro investigators said Christiansen sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl three times between January 2014 and December 2016. Detectives said Christiansen also sent the child sexually explicit text messages during that time, including pornographic videos.
