Business contact information on Google apart of new scam

(KAIT) - A new scam is targeting Google users.

Scammers are swapping the phone numbers of the legitimate business and listing to fake ones to scam you out of money.

Courtney Pearson was looking for someone to repair her washing machine.

The next day, two men showed up to her home in an unmarked truck and charged her $400 for the work.

She realized soon after that the washing machine was still broken and her check had been cashed.

"I thought this was for sure this was someone who was going to take care of me," Pearson said. "This is a scam. They're not coming back."

Google said it uses an automated system to help them detect fraud and they try to address inaccuracies as quickly as possible.

Consumers should check multiple sites for business information, and if you are a business owner, Google said you can register to get an email anytime your contact information has been changed.
