Huckabee Scraps Trip to Guatamala

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Governor Huckabee didn't go to Guatamala with a National Guard delegation this week after all.  Huckabee and his wife, Janet, had planned to leave for the Central American country yesterday.

But a spokeswoman for the Arkansas National Guard says glitches with travel clearances scuttled the governor's trip and the Guard officials departed without the Hucakbees.

Captain Kristine Munn of the Guard said problems arose with travel planned for the governor once he got to Guatamala.  She said his itenerary was very tight, visiting several different sites that were hours away from each other, so he would have had to fly.  But she said there were problems getting clearances from officials in the Pentagon and the National Guard Bureau at Washington.

Huckabee spokesman Jim Harris said the Arkansas Guard and local officials in Guatamala did a good job in preparation.  He said the difficulties were with Department of Defense and their providing less-than-consistent information to the parties involved.
