Man killed after collision with towing unit

OREGON COUNTY, MO (KAIT) - A Missouri man was killed after hitting another vehicle's towing unit.

The crash happened Monday afternoon on Highway 160, just west of Route CC, in Oregon County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, 34-year-old Issac Simmons of Alton was driving a 2006 Ford F-250 west with a towing unit attached.

While in a curve, the towed unit crossed the centerline as it met a 2003 Ford Ranger in the eastbound lane driven by Randall E. Miller, 23, of Thayer, according to the crash report.

The Ranger struck the towed unit near the centerline in the eastbound lane. The unit separated from the truck, went off the right side of the road, and struck a sign.

Simmons' truck then crossed the centerline and went off the left side of the road.

Miller was pronounced dead at the scene by Oregon County Coroner Tom Clary about 40 minutes after the crash.
